The Kinema Active Chair stands out from conventional swivel chairs with its unique properties. It is a customizable sit-stand product that can be smoothly and flexibly adjusted to its user's body and requirements. It combines various stand, sit, and sit postures in one piece of furniture, making it suitable for use with height-adjustable desks and conference tables. Its innovative design and ergonomic concept allow for a dynamic change in body posture, offering more than just sitting and standing.
Zoell's design was inspired by the need for a healthy solution to the detrimental effects of prolonged sitting. The Kinema Active Chair encourages active sitting in vertical movement, creating a healthier workspace environment that nurtures both body and soul while boosting productivity. This is a significant departure from the inflexible body posture that most office workers are accustomed to.
The chair's unique mechanics, which are internationally patent-protected, allow for a dynamically adjusted alternation of seat inclination and pelvis position from -10 to +4°. This open sitting posture promotes pelvis tilting and keeps the spine in a healthy physiological posture. When in an elevated or stand-up sitting position, the user's limbs automatically take on an open angular position, relieving joint pressure, reducing pressure on lumbar vertebrae, and stimulating blood flow.
The Kinema Active Chair was designed and developed over a three-year period from 2014 to 2017 in Munich and Olpe, Germany. The design team, led by Stefan Zoell and including Matthias Hartung and Arno Henkel, faced the challenge of creating a chair that promotes active sitting – a constant combination of sitting and standing – as the key to healthy office living. Their efforts resulted in a chair that is easy to set up, simple to use, and combinable with height-adjustable desks and tables.
The Kinema Active Chair's innovative design and contribution to healthy office living have not gone unnoticed. In 2017, it was awarded Silver in the A' Furniture Design Award, a prestigious accolade given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. The award is a testament to the chair's strong technical characteristics, splendid artistic skill, and remarkable level of excellence.
